Joby Aviation acquires second Ohio manufacturing facility

January 7, 2026 9:17 AM EST

Joby Aviation Inc. (NYSE: JOBY) signed an agreement to acquire a manufacturing facility in the Dayton, Ohio area spanning more than 700,000 square feet. The electric air taxi developer said the facility will support its plans to double production to four aircraft per month in 2027.

The facility is ready for immediate use and operations are expected to begin this year, according to the company's press release. The acquisition complements Joby's existing production facilities in California and Ohio, with the company having started propeller blade production in Ohio in October.

"This site will not only support our near-term plan to double production, it can also serve as a base for significant future growth," said JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby Aviation.

In July, Joby completed an expanded manufacturing facility in Marina, California. The company began procurement of capital equipment required to double manufacturing capacity last month and is hiring to support round-the-clock manufacturing operations at its California site.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said the expansion brings together the state's aviation heritage with its manufacturing workforce. Senator Bernie Moreno called the investment a testament to Ohio's manufacturing renaissance, while Senator Jon Husted noted the facility will create jobs for Ohioans.

The announcement comes as the U.S. Department of Transportation recently announced a national strategy for advanced air mobility. The Federal Aviation Administration and DOT are preparing to deploy the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program in 2026.

Joby is developing an all-electric, vertical take-off and landing air taxi for commercial passenger service in cities worldwide.
