Firefly Aerospace (NASDAQ: FLY) completed its acquisition of SciTec, Inc., a national security technology company, according to a company statement. The transaction, first announced on October 5, involved a combination of cash and Firefly common stock.
SciTec brings more than 475 employees specializing in defense software, artificial intelligence applications, and big data processing capabilities. The company operates across six locations with classified infrastructure, data centers, and mission operations centers positioned near space and defense customers.
The acquired company provides software for missile warning and defense systems, intelligence and surveillance operations, space domain awareness, and autonomous command and control systems. SciTec processes high-volume satellite data across various orbital configurations for defense and commercial applications.
"SciTec brings more than four decades of experience supporting high-stakes national security missions with industry-leading software applications and big data processing capabilities," said Jason Kim, CEO of Firefly Aerospace.
SciTec will continue operating as a Firefly subsidiary under its current business model. Jim Lisowski will remain as CEO of SciTec and report to Firefly's CEO Jason Kim.
The acquisition adds contracts with intelligence community agencies, defense organizations, and commercial customers to Firefly's portfolio. SciTec's capabilities include cloud-based, on-premise, and edge processing systems for satellite data analysis.
Firefly Aerospace, established in 2017, operates launch vehicles, lunar landers, and orbital vehicles from facilities in central Texas. The company has conducted satellite launches and lunar landing missions.
