Clarivate launches AI-powered patent monitoring software

Clarivate Plc (NYSE: CLVT) announced the launch of Derwent Patent Monitor, a software solution designed to streamline intellectual property and research and development patent reviews. The London-based company made the announcement on Nov. 24.

The new enterprise solution uses artificial intelligence to evaluate potential patent threats and accelerate initial reviews for freedom to operate, patentability, and infringement assessments. The software incorporates data from the Derwent World Patents Index, which contains more than 67 million invention summaries compiled by over 850 subject matter experts.

Derwent Patent Monitor features project-based review workflows and real-time feedback capabilities intended to replace email and spreadsheet-based collaboration methods. The platform aims to help patent teams coordinate reviews for opposition, assertion, and patent filing decisions.

"One of the biggest challenges IP leaders mention to me is upgrading their team's partnership with R&D for filing stronger patents and minimizing infringement risk," said Shandon Quinn, Vice President of Patent Intelligence at Clarivate. "Yet too often the process is slowed down by siloed teams and disjointed tools and processes."

The software represents Clarivate's expansion of its intellectual property portfolio, building on its existing patent database services. The company provides data analytics and workflow solutions across academia, government, intellectual property, and life sciences sectors.
