Cessna Citation Ascend receives FAA certification

The Cessna Citation Ascend received Federal Aviation Administration type certification on November 5, with entry into service expected later this year, according to manufacturer Textron Aviation Inc., a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company.

Two flight test aircraft completed more than 1,000 flight hours and numerous certification tests to achieve FAA approval. The midsize business jet features a new cockpit with Garmin G5000 avionics, improved performance specifications, and a flat floor cabin design.

The aircraft is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW545D engines and delivers a maximum speed of 441 knots true airspeed, maximum range of 1,940 nautical miles, and full fuel payload of 900 pounds. The jet can accommodate up to 12 passengers.

Standard cockpit equipment includes autothrottle technology, three 14-inch displays with split-screen capabilities, dual flight management systems, synthetic vision technology, and weather detection systems. The aircraft also features a Honeywell RE100 XL Auxiliary Power Unit for ground operations.

Cabin amenities include 19 standard USB charging ports, three universal outlets, wireless phone charging capability, and optional Bongiovi sound system. Connectivity options include standard Gogo U.S. Avance L3 Max Wi-Fi with optional upgrades available.

"We sought our customers' feedback, and the result is a business jet that offers customers the latest innovations in performance, productivity and efficiency," said Chris Hearne, senior vice president of Engineering & Programs at Textron Aviation.

More than 1,000 aircraft in the Citation 560XL series have been delivered since 2000, according to the company statement.
