Viatris appoints David Simmons to board of directors

Viatris Inc. (NASDAQ: VTRS) announced the appointment of David Simmons to its board of directors, according to a company statement.

Simmons currently serves as CEO of Caliber Holdings Corporation. He previously worked as Operating Partner at Hellman & Friedman, LLC and as Chairman and CEO of PPD, Inc., a contract pharmaceutical research organization. During his tenure at PPD, the company's enterprise value more than tripled, and he oversaw its 2020 initial public offering and subsequent $17.4 billion sale to Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. in 2021.

Simmons spent more than 15 years at Pfizer Inc., where he became the first President and General Manager of the company's Established Products Unit and later added responsibilities for Emerging Markets and Established Products. In that role, he managed approximately 20,000 employees and oversaw 30% of Pfizer's global sales.

He currently sits on the board of directors of Cordis, a cardiovascular medical technology company, and serves as a senior advisor to Abingworth LLP. His previous board positions include Curia Global, Inc., Launch Therapeutics, Inc., Medline Industries, Inc. and Owens & Minor, Inc. Simmons holds a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics and industrial management from Carnegie Mellon University.

"His Chairman and CEO background, coupled with his knowledge and insights regarding the global pharmaceutical industry, drug development and capital markets make him a natural fit," said Melina Higgins, Chair of Viatris' Board of Directors.

Scott A. Smith, Viatris' Chief Executive Officer, stated that Simmons "possesses the mindset of both a strategist and an executor" and will bring value to the board.
