NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: NNE) announced the appointment of Vice Admiral Charles J. Leidig, Jr. (Ret.) as Chairman of its Executive Advisory Board for Naval Nuclear Initiatives, according to a company statement.

Leidig will advise the company on potential civilian and defense applications of its nuclear technologies, including the use of NANO Nuclear microreactors for naval propulsion and baseload power on operating bases.

The retired vice admiral served as Deputy to the Commander for Military Operations, U.S. Africa Command from August 2010 to June 2013, concluding a 39-year Navy career. His previous roles included serving as the 80th Commandant of Midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy and commanding USS Cavalla (SSN 684).

Leidig's career encompassed various leadership positions including Commander, Submarine Development Squadron Five; Commander, Naval Forces and Region Marianas; Commander, Submarine Group Eight; and Deputy Commander, U.S. 6th Fleet. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1978 and holds a master's degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.

"The U.S. Navy's long record of safe, reliable nuclear propulsion has shown how compact reactors can deliver consistent power under demanding conditions," Leidig stated. "NANO Nuclear brings that same spirit of innovation to the next generation of microreactors for potential civilian and military use."

NANO Nuclear develops portable nuclear microreactor technologies and is working on its KRONOS MMR Energy System, which is in construction permit pre-application engagement with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The company also operates subsidiaries focused on nuclear fuel fabrication, transportation, and space applications.

Company CEO James Walker said Leidig's appointment strengthens the company's advisory roster and that his nuclear-power experience will be valuable as the country seeks energy solutions.
