Lyft appoints Deborah Hersman to board of directors

Lyft Inc. (NASDAQ: LYFT) appointed Deborah Hersman to its board of directors, effective immediately, according to a company statement. Hersman will serve as a Class I director with a term expiring at the company's 2026 Annual Meeting of Stockholders.

Hersman has been named to the board's Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. She served as chair of the National Transportation Safety Board from 2009 to 2014 and as a board member from 2004 to 2014. From 2014 to 2019, she was president and chief executive officer of the National Safety Council.

From January 2019 to February 2021, Hersman worked as chief safety officer and advisor at Waymo LLC, the autonomous driving technology company owned by Alphabet Inc. She previously held a professional staff position with the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee.

Hersman currently serves on the boards of ONE Gas Inc., a natural gas utility company, since June 2023 and will become chair in May 2026. She has been a board member of NiSource Inc., an electric and gas utility company, since June 2019. She previously served on the board of Velodyne Lidar Inc.

The company stated that Hersman was selected for her operating experience in the autonomous vehicles industry, safety and regulatory expertise, and public company board experience. She holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science and International Studies from Virginia Tech and a master's degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University.

Hersman will receive standard compensation available to the company's non-employee directors and will enter into the company's standard indemnification agreement.
