IonQ names former Space Force chief Raymond to board

IonQ (NYSE: IONQ) announced the appointment of General John W. "Jay" Raymond to its board of directors, according to a company statement. Raymond served as the first Chief of Space Operations for the U.S. Space Force and retired from military service on January 1, 2023.
Raymond brings nearly 40 years of military experience, having held leadership positions across nuclear, space, air, and cyber operations. His previous roles included commanding the 5th Space Surveillance Squadron, 30th Operations Group, 21st Space Wing, 14th Air Force, Air Force Space Command, Joint Forces Space Component Command, and United States Space Command.
The general currently serves as a Senior Managing Director for Cerberus Capital Management and sits on the boards of Impulse Space and Planet Labs. He also chairs the Board of Trustees for Arnold Air Society and Silver Wings and holds advisory roles at Stanford University's Hoover Institute and the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
As part of the board changes, Bill Scannell, President of Global Sales and Customer Operations at Dell Technologies, is transitioning from board member to Senior Commercial Advisor at IonQ to support the company's global go-to-market strategy.
The quantum computing company has made several recent executive appointments, including Dean Acosta as Chief Corporate Affairs and Government Officer, Paul Dacier as Chief Legal Officer, Dr. Marco Pistoia as Senior Vice President of Industry Relations, Dr. Rick Muller as Vice President of Engineering, and Robert Cardillo in a leadership role for IonQ Federal.
IonQ operates quantum computers including the IonQ Forte and IonQ Forte Enterprise systems and works with partners such as Amazon Web Services, AstraZeneca, and NVIDIA.
