GAP appoints Universal Music Publishing Group CEO Jody Gerson to board

Gap Inc. (NYSE: GAP) announced the appointment of Jody Gerson, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group, to its Board of Directors, effective immediately.



Gerson has served as CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group since 2015, where she has overseen signings of artists including Adele, Harry Styles, and Kendrick Lamar. She also led acquisitions of music catalogs from Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, and Sting.



"Jody is a cultural force in her own right," said Richard Dickson, President and CEO of Gap Inc. "Her insights into fashiontainment – our platform at the intersection of fashion, music and celebrity – are unmatched."



Gerson serves on several boards including the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Ancestry.com, and the National Music Publishers Association. She co-founded the nonprofit She Is The Music.



"Gap Inc. has long been a cultural icon, bridging fashion, music, and identity," Gerson said. "I'm honored to join Gap Inc.'s Board of Directors and excited to bring my perspective and experience in the creative industries to the table."



The appointment follows Gap's recent music-driven fashion campaigns, including "Better in Denim" featuring pop group Katseye, which generated over 400 million views and 8 billion impressions according to the company.



Gap Inc. operates Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta brands through company-operated and franchise stores, as well as e-commerce sites. The San Francisco-based company describes itself as the largest specialty apparel company in America.
