Investing.com -- Deere & Company (NYSE: DE) announced the death of board member Sherry M. Smith, who had served on the company's board since 2011.
Smith was the board's lead director and served on both the Corporate Governance and Compensation committees. Before joining Deere's board, she had worked as executive vice president and chief financial officer at Supervalu Inc.
"Sherry's leadership, wisdom, and kindness have significantly impacted our organization. Her strategic vision and unwavering commitment to our company and stakeholders have helped steer Deere through numerous milestones and achievements," said John C. May, Chairman and CEO of Deere & Company.
May added that "Sherry's absence will be profoundly felt," and expressed condolences to her family.
