October 30, 2025 7:01 AM EDT

Cartesian Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: RNAC) announced that Carsten Brunn, the company's president and chief executive officer, has been named chairman of the board of directors, effective October 29.

Brunn succeeds Carrie Cox, who is stepping down from the chairman role to focus on other responsibilities, including her recent appointment as executive chair of another publicly traded company. Cox will remain involved with the company in some capacity.

In connection with Brunn's appointment as chairman, Patrick Zenner was named lead independent director of the board.

The Frederick, Maryland-based clinical-stage biotechnology company develops cell therapies for autoimmune diseases. Its lead asset, Descartes-08, is a CAR-T therapy currently in Phase 3 clinical development for patients with generalized myasthenia gravis and Phase 2 development for systemic lupus erythematosus.

The company also has Descartes-15, an anti-BCMA CAR-T therapy being evaluated in a Phase 1 trial for patients with multiple myeloma.

Cox commented on the transition, stating she believes the company is positioned for continued success as it advances toward its first planned regulatory submission for Descartes-08. Brunn acknowledged Cox's contributions in advancing the Descartes-08 program.

The leadership change comes as the company continues to develop its pipeline of cell therapies targeting various autoimmune conditions, with additional trials planned across multiple indications.
