CASI Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: CASI) announced the appointment of Barbara Krebs-Pohl as an independent director to its board of directors, according to a company press release.

Krebs-Pohl brings 27 years of experience in biotechnology development and business strategy. She previously served as chief business officer at MorphoSys, where she led the company through its $2.9 billion acquisition by Novartis. She also played roles in MorphoSys's acquisition of Constellation Pharmaceuticals and licensing deals involving felzartamab and izastobart to HI-Bio, which was subsequently acquired by Biogen for $1.8 billion.

She currently serves as managing director of the Foundation for Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine and as partner and managing director at Viopas Venture Consulting, where she advises biotechnology companies on growth and partnerships.

"This IND for CID-103 is a significant milestone in CASI's mission to develop innovative therapies for patients with organ transplant rejection and autoimmune diseases," Krebs-Pohl stated regarding the company's recent FDA investigational new drug acceptance for CID-103.

CASI focuses on developing CID-103, an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody for organ transplant rejection and autoimmune diseases. The company is conducting a Phase 1/2 study in immune thrombocytopenic purpura and received FDA clearance for a Phase 1/2 study in renal allograft antibody-mediated rejection, with plans to begin patient enrollment in the first quarter of 2026.

Executive Chairman Wei-Wu He expressed satisfaction with the appointment, while CEO David Cory noted that Krebs-Pohl's background would provide strategic insights as the CID-103 program advances.
