BlackBerry appoints cybersecurity executive Barry Mainz to board

BlackBerry Limited (NYSE: BB) (TSX: BB) announced the appointment of Barry Mainz to its Board of Directors. The company increased its total number of directors to eight, with seven being independent directors, including Mainz.
Mainz serves as Chief Executive Officer of Forescout Technologies, a cybersecurity company. He brings 30 years of experience in executive leadership, global sales, marketing, and product development. His previous roles include President of Wind River Systems, Chief Operating Officer of Malwarebytes, and Chief Executive Officer of MobileIron.
Mainz has also worked as an Operating Partner at Crosspoint Capital and held leadership positions at Mercury Interactive, Makara, and Sun Microsystems. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from San Francisco State University.
"Barry brings to BlackBerry a unique combination of relevant strategic, operating and go-to-market experience from across the security software industry," said Dick Lynch, Board Chair.
Mainz stated his appointment comes "at a moment when the company's leadership in Secure by Design technologies has never been more critical." He cited growth in high-performance software deployment and increased security breaches targeting connected devices in automotive, medical, and aerospace sectors.
The Waterloo, Ontario-based company provides software and services for enterprises and governments, with focus areas including secure communications and foundational software for automotive and industrial applications.
