BlackBerry Limited (NYSE: BB) (TSX: BB) appointed Barry Mainz, chief executive officer of Forescout Technologies, to its board of directors, the company announced.
Mainz brings 30 years of experience in technology leadership roles. He currently serves as CEO of cybersecurity company Forescout Technologies and previously held executive positions at Wind River Systems as president, Malwarebytes as chief operating officer, and MobileIron as CEO and director.
The appointment expands BlackBerry's board to eight directors, seven of whom are independent, including Mainz. He has also served as an operating partner at Crosspoint Capital and held leadership roles at Mercury Interactive, Makara, and Sun Microsystems.
"Barry brings to BlackBerry a unique combination of relevant strategic, operating and go-to-market experience from across the security software industry," said Dick Lynch, board chair, according to the company's statement.
Mainz holds a bachelor's degree in communications from San Francisco State University. In his statement, he cited BlackBerry's QNX platform and secure communications technology as important for connected devices across automotive, medical, and aerospace sectors.
The Waterloo, Ontario-based company provides software and services for enterprises and governments, with focus areas including secure communications and foundational software for automotive and industrial applications.
