BioGene Therapeutics appoints Raj Pruthi as director
BioGene Therapeutics Inc. has appointed Raj S. Pruthi, MD, MHA, FACS, as a director, according to an announcement from PreveCeutical Medical Inc. (CSE: PREV) (OTCQB: PRVCF) (FSE: 18H0), which holds a significant stake in BioGene.
Dr. Pruthi currently serves as Chief Medical Officer at Relmada Therapeutics, Inc., a position he has held since June 2025. At Relmada, he leads the development of the NDV-011 program for bladder cancer and oversaw fundraising efforts that raised over $100 million in net proceeds through a public offering and an additional $160 million through a private investment.
Prior to his role at Relmada, Dr. Pruthi served as Chief Medical Officer at enGene Inc. from April 2024 to June 2025, where he led a global gene therapy program for bladder cancer across more than 60 countries. He previously worked at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine from September 2022 to April 2024, contributing to FDA and EMA approvals including the FDA approval of TAR-200 in September 2025.
Dr. Pruthi spent over two decades in academic medicine before transitioning to industry, serving as a tenured Professor and Department Chair of Urology at institutions including the University of California, San Francisco and the University of North Carolina. He has authored more than 220 peer-reviewed publications and delivered over 420 scientific presentations.
As part of his appointment, BioGene has granted Dr. Pruthi 100,000 stock options exercisable at $5.00 per share until March 10, 2030, and 500,000 restricted share units. Both grants vest 25% annually over four years beginning March 10, 2026.
BioGene Therapeutics focuses on gene therapy programs targeting metabolic disorders including diabetes and obesity. The company operates through a subsidiary in Australia to access the country's 43.5% research and development tax incentive.
