Ally Financial Inc. (NYSE: ALLY) announced the appointment of Allan Merrill and Gunther Bright to its board of directors, effective Nov. 3.
Merrill serves as chairman, president and CEO of Beazer Homes USA, Inc., a national homebuilder. He joined Beazer as CFO in 2007 and became CEO in 2011. Merrill previously worked in investment banking and online real estate marketing and served on Freddie Mac's board from 2020 until 2025. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
Bright is a financial services executive with more than 30 years of experience at American Express, where he most recently served as EVP and general manager for the U.S. Large Market and Global Client Group before retiring at the end of 2023. Since 2022, he has served on the board of TPG, Inc. and previously served on the boards of Warburg Pincus Capital Corporation and McAfee Corp. He holds a bachelor's degree in international economics from Pace University.

Fritz Hobbs, chairman of Ally's board, noted that the appointments bring the total number of new independent directors added since 2022 to five. The company stated this reflects its commitment to board refreshment.
Ally Financial operates the nation's largest all-digital bank and provides auto financing, deposits, securities brokerage, investment advisory services and corporate finance services.
