bioAffinity Technologies receives Mexico patent allowance for lung cancer test

May 27, 2026 8:01 AM EDT

bioAffinity Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: BIAF) announced it received notification of patent allowance from the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property for methods of predicting lung cancer likelihood using flow cytometry.

The patent will protect the use of specific antibodies and the porphyrin TCPP to label cell populations in sputum, along with flow cytometry techniques to determine the presence of lung cancer cells in sputum samples. This patent supports the company's CyPath Lung diagnostic test.

CyPath Lung is a noninvasive test that uses flow cytometry and artificial intelligence with at-home sample collection to assess indeterminate pulmonary nodules in high-risk patients. The test incorporates a fluorescent porphyrin that is preferentially absorbed by cancer and cancer-related cells.

According to a published clinical trial, CyPath Lung demonstrated 92% sensitivity, 87% specificity, 88% accuracy and 99% negative predictive value in detecting lung cancer in high-risk patients with small indeterminate lung nodules less than 20 millimeters.

"This patent expands our global intellectual property portfolio and protection of CyPath Lung's proprietary approach to detecting lung cancer at its earliest and most treatable stages," said Maria Zannes, president and CEO of bioAffinity Technologies.

The company's intellectual property portfolio for its flow cytometry-based CyPath Lung platform now includes patents in the United States, European Union, China, Japan, Australia, Canada and Mexico. CyPath Lung is marketed as a Laboratory Developed Test by Precision Pathology Laboratory Services, a subsidiary of bioAffinity Technologies.

The San Antonio-based biotechnology company focuses on early-stage cancer diagnostics and broad-spectrum cancer treatments.
