bioAffinity Technologies receives China patent for lung cancer diagnostic

bioAffinity Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: BIAF; BIAFW) received notification of patent allowance from the China National Intellectual Property Administration for methods of predicting lung cancer likelihood using flow cytometry.

The patent, titled "System and Method for Determining Lung Health," covers the use of defined antibodies and porphyrin TCPP to label cell populations in sputum and flow cytometry to detect lung cancer cells in sputum samples.

China has more than 300 million smokers, representing one-third of the world's total smokers, according to the World Health Organization. The China cancer registry estimated 1.06 million new lung cancer cases were diagnosed in 2022.

The company's CyPath Lung test uses flow cytometry and artificial intelligence to identify cell populations in patient sputum that indicate malignancy. Clinical study results showed 92% sensitivity, 87% specificity and 88% accuracy in detecting lung cancer in high-risk patients with small lung nodules less than 20 millimeters. The test detected all forms of lung cancer and 80% of Stage 1 cancers in the study.

The patent adds to bioAffinity's global patent portfolio, which includes patents in the United States, China, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Canada and the European Union. CyPath Lung is marketed as a Laboratory Developed Test by Precision Pathology Laboratory Services, a subsidiary of bioAffinity Technologies.
