Wolters Kluwer Health (EURONEXT: WKL) announced the launch of Medi-Span Expert AI, a system designed to provide medication intelligence to digital health technology developers. The company made a Model Context Protocol server available to select AI developers to connect third-party AI applications with Medi-Span medication data.

The MCP server aims to reduce development timelines by providing AI-ready access to Medi-Span's drug content, dosing guidelines, and decision logic. Christopher Sullivan, Vice President and General Manager of Pharmacy and Health Technology Solutions, stated that agentic AI workflows represent a growing segment in healthcare applications.

Wolters Kluwer plans to expand Medi-Span Expert AI for use across clinical, patient and administrative workflows. Potential applications include clinical decision support, medication order validation, drug lookup and reconciliation, adverse event monitoring, and formulary management.

The company's Medi-Span division provides medication data used across healthcare systems for drug-related decisions. Wolters Kluwer also operates UpToDate, a clinical decision support resource.

Jean-Claude Saghbini, Chief Technology Officer at Lumeris, commented on the collaboration, citing Wolters Kluwer's medication expertise and AI architecture capabilities.

Wolters Kluwer reported 2024 annual revenues of €5.9 billion and serves customers in over 180 countries. The Netherlands-based company employs approximately 21,600 people worldwide and operates in more than 40 countries.
