White House economic adviser says October jobs data will be incomplete
Investing.com -- White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett announced Thursday that the upcoming October employment report will be partially released, providing job numbers but omitting the unemployment rate.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House and in an appearance on Fox News, Hassett explained that while the jobs portion of the report would be available, Americans "will never know what October unemployment rate was."
Hassett also addressed the September jobs report, stating it has "already been cooked" and could potentially be released next week.
Regarding federal workers affected by recent government disruptions, Hassett indicated that federal backpay would be distributed "as soon as next week."
The incomplete nature of the October employment data represents an unusual situation for economic analysts who typically rely on comprehensive monthly labor statistics to assess the health of the U.S. economy.
