Volatus Aerospace Inc. (TSXV: FLT) appointed Lieutenant-General (Ret'd) Christopher J. Coates to its Board of Advisors, the company announced in a press release statement.
Coates served over 30 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, including roles as Commander of Canadian Joint Operations Command and Deputy Commander of NORAD. During his military career, he oversaw domestic and global operations and led air defense initiatives for North America in partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense.
The appointment aims to strengthen Volatus' defense expertise as the company develops uncrewed aerial systems for the Canadian Armed Forces and allied defense partners. The Board of Advisors provides strategic guidance on defense procurement, government policy, and international markets.
"Christopher brings deep operational insight into the defence of North America, a sophisticated understanding of emerging threats, and practical leadership experience across Canada's most complex military operations," said Glen Lynch, CEO of Volatus Aerospace.
Coates currently heads the Foreign Policy, National Defence, and National Security Program at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biochemistry and a Master of Strategic Studies.
"Canada must accelerate the adoption of modern technologies, sovereign manufacturing, and advanced training capabilities to meet growing security challenges," Coates stated.
Volatus Aerospace provides aerial solutions for commercial and defense applications, serving industries including oil and gas, utilities, healthcare, and public safety through piloted and remotely piloted aircraft systems.
