Sonoma Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: SNOA) announced the appointment of Vanessa Jacoby to its board of directors and as chair of its audit committee. The company also named Arturo Angel as senior vice president of regulatory, quality and product development.

Jacoby currently serves as chief business and financial officer of Quanta Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: RNA), where she led the company's initial public offering process. Jacoby is a licensed CPA in California and began her career as an auditor at Ernst & Young.

Angel joins Sonoma from Bausch Health Companies Inc., where he served as executive director of research and development for over 15 years. He led product development of pharmaceutical, over-the-counter and cosmetic products for dermal, oral and nasal administration. Prior to Bausch Health, Angel worked at Dow Pharmaceutical Sciences Inc. for nearly 20 years as a chemist and formulation and process development leader.

The company announced the retirement of longtime director Dr. Jay Birnbaum, who served on the board since April 2007. Birnbaum co-founded Kythera Biopharmaceuticals and previously held positions at Novartis/Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Corporation and American Cyanamid Company.

"We are truly honored to have both Ms. Jacoby and Mr. Angel join the Sonoma team," said Amy Trombly, CEO of Sonoma. The company stated that both appointments provide expertise that will benefit Sonoma's growth.
