Saudia reportedly mulls 150-jet order, talks to Boeing, Airbus

Investing.com -- Saudi Arabia's flagship carrier Saudia is in early discussions with Boeing Co. and Airbus SE for what could become its largest aircraft purchase ever, according to a Bloomberg report Thursday.

With the kindom ready to pour in billions of dollars ro transform itself into a gloval travel hub, the airline is reportedly considering buying at least 150 narrowbody and widebody aircraft. Saudia is currently evaluating offers from both manufacturers but has not yet made decisions on specific types or quantities.

The potential purchase would serve to replace portions of Saudia's existing 200-aircraft fleet while also expanding its overall size. The talks remain in preliminary stages and may not lead to a final agreement.

The 80-year-old carrier has made substantial fleet investments previously, including an order for 105 Airbus narrowbody jets in 2024. In 2023, Saudia ordered more than 36 Boeing 787 Dreamliners with options for an additional 10 aircraft.

The state-owned airline is being repositioned to concentrate on religious pilgrimage travel, while new carrier Riyadh Air is being developed as a premium option for tourists when it launches operations.
