Rigetti Computing Inc. (NASDAQ: RGTI) announced the general availability of its 108-qubit quantum computing system, Cepheus-1-108Q, accessible through the company's Quantum Cloud Services platform and Amazon Braket.
The system comprises twelve interconnected 9-qubit chiplets, tripling the qubit count from Rigetti's previous 36-qubit system. The Berkeley, California-based company stated the system currently operates at 99.1% median two-qubit gate fidelity with a gate speed of approximately 60 nanoseconds and 99.9% median single-gate fidelity.
Cepheus-1-108Q uses Rigetti's chiplet-based architecture and includes technical improvements such as enhanced qubit and coupler design, CZ gates for error correction, upgraded control electronics, and an advanced fabrication process called Alternating-Bias Assisted Annealing.
"Cepheus-1-108Q is a milestone that validates our ambitious approach to scaling quantum computers," said Dr. Subodh Kulkarni, Rigetti CEO. "Our proprietary chiplet-based architecture is paving the way toward higher fidelity, higher qubit systems that will ultimately enable fault-tolerant quantum computing."
Eric Kessler, General Manager of Amazon Braket, noted that the system represents the first gate-based device on Braket with over 100 qubits. Amazon Braket is AWS's quantum computing service that provides researchers and enterprises access to quantum hardware.
Rigetti expects the system to reach 99.5% median two-qubit gate fidelity later this year and plans to update its technology roadmap, including goals to achieve quantum advantage within three years. The company manufactures its quantum processors at Fab-1, which it describes as the industry's first dedicated quantum device manufacturing facility.
