Renalytix plc (LSE: RENX) (OTCQB: RNLXY) announced an agreement with Tempus AI Inc. (NASDAQ: TEM) to make its kidneyintelX.dkd prognostic blood test more widely available within Tempus' US healthcare network, according to a company statement.
The test targets patients with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease, a population affecting nearly 15 million individuals in the US. The kidneyintelX.dkd test represents the first chronic kidney disease diagnostic in Tempus' portfolio and is indicated for predicting risk levels for progressive kidney function decline in type 2 diabetes patients with chronic kidney disease stages 1-3b.
Under the collaboration, Tempus and Renalytix will work with US health systems to integrate the testing into existing clinical workflows. The tests will be processed in Renalytix laboratories, with results reported electronically to ordering clinicians and patient portals.
"The unique Tempus platform, with its broad clinical reach, will allow us to significantly expand patient and clinician access to advance kidneyintelX.dkd precision medicine testing," said James McCullough, CEO of Renalytix.
Ryan Fukushima, Tempus Chief Operating Officer, stated that the collaboration "expands our reach into the diabetes and chronic kidney disease space."
Renalytix has received FDA approval and Medicare reimbursement for the kidneyintelX.dkd test, which is currently offered commercially in the United States. The test aims to help providers identify patients at risk for kidney function decline and adjust treatment accordingly.
Chronic kidney disease affects more than 35 million adults in the United States, with Medicare spending over $130 billion annually on kidney disease care, according to the National Kidney Foundation.
