NewcelX partners with Eledon to develop diabetes treatment

March 9, 2026 7:01 AM EDT

NewcelX Ltd. (NASDAQ: NCEL) announced a collaborative research agreement with Eledon Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: ELDN) to advance combination strategies for Type 1 diabetes treatment. The partnership will integrate NewcelX's NCEL-101 program with Eledon's investigational anti-CD40L monoclonal antibody, tegoprubart.

The collaboration aims to combine NewcelX's stem-cell-derived islets with Eledon's immune modulation therapy. Tegoprubart is designed to modulate immune activation pathways that contribute to transplant rejection. Eledon has clinical experience from treating over 100 transplant patients with tegoprubart across kidney, heart and diabetes-related transplant settings under multiple FDA-cleared Investigational New Drug applications.

"The collaboration marks an important strategic milestone for NewcelX, enhancing its execution-focused clinical programs and broadening collaboration with established leaders in immune biology and transplant medicine," said Professor Michel Revel, Chief Science Officer of NewcelX.

NCEL-101 remains NewcelX's core therapeutic product, designed as a scalable, off-the-shelf cell replacement therapy to address the shortage of functional insulin-producing cells. The immune modulation component is intended to enhance durability and survival of the transplanted cells.

Executive Chairman and CEO Ronen Twito stated that leveraging Eledon's transplant experience "provides us with clinically grounded insight that potentially supports a clearer regulatory pathway and a more efficient development plan for NCEL-101."

NewcelX is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing stem-cell-derived therapies for Type 1 diabetes. The company's platform is based on human pluripotent stem cells for cell replacement therapy.
