NRG Energy appoints Sanjay Kapoor to board of directors

NRG Energy Inc. (NYSE: NRG) announced the appointment of Sanjay Kapoor to its board of directors, effective February 3, 2026. Kapoor will also serve on the board's audit committee.
The appointment increases NRG's board to 11 members. Kapoor, 65, brings more than 30 years of experience in senior financial and operational roles across industrial manufacturing, aerospace and defense industries.
"Sanjay brings decades of financial insight and seasoned leadership to our Board, and we are pleased to have him join NRG," said Larry Coben, chair and chief executive officer. "His demonstrated judgment and extensive experience overseeing complex public companies will further strengthen our Board's oversight and help advance long-term value for our shareholders and customers."
Kapoor retired in 2019 as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Spirit AeroSystems. He previously held leadership positions at Raytheon from 2004 to 2013 and United Technologies from 1990 to 2004. At Raytheon, he led the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Systems, including the Patriot and Hawk programs, and oversaw business execution activities that doubled revenue during his final three years.
Kapoor currently serves on the boards of Crane Company (NYSE: CR) since 2023 and SAAB Inc. since 2021. He previously served on the board of Black & Veatch from 2018 to 2025. He holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology.
NRG Energy provides electricity, natural gas and smart home solutions to eight million customers across North America and operates approximately 25 gigawatts of power generation capacity.
