Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ: META) announced it will construct its 30th data center in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, with an investment exceeding $1 billion. The facility will be designed to support artificial intelligence workloads and is expected to create more than 100 operational jobs and over 1,000 construction positions at peak building activity.
The company said it will invest nearly $200 million in energy infrastructure including network upgrades, utility substations, and transmission lines. Meta will donate $15 million to Alliant Energy's Hometown Care Energy Fund to assist local families with home energy costs.
The data center will use dry-cooling technology, eliminating water demands for cooling operations. Meta plans to restore 100% of water consumed by the facility to local watersheds through various conservation measures including rainwater capture and native vegetation landscaping.
Meta will partner with Ducks Unlimited and other organizations to restore 570 acres of wetlands and prairie surrounding the data center site. Approximately 175 acres will be deeded to Ducks Unlimited for habitat revitalization efforts supporting wildlife and native plant species.
The facility's electricity consumption will be matched with 100% renewable energy sources. The data center is designed to achieve LEED Gold Certification standards. Meta will also offer Data Center Community Action Grants to local schools and organizations, with applications opening next fall.
The company stated the location was selected for its access to reliable infrastructure and skilled workforce. The information was provided in a company press release.
