Longeveron receives Canadian patent for stem cell treatments

December 2, 2025 9:15 AM EST

Longeveron Inc. (NASDAQ: LGVN) announced that the Canadian Intellectual Property Office granted the company a patent covering methods for administering its mesenchymal stem cell therapy to treat aging-related frailty with inflammaging and non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy.

Canadian Patent No. 3043594, titled "Method of Using Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells to Effect Cellular and Humoral Immunity," provides patent protection through 2037. The patent covers administration of laromestrocel, the company's proprietary mesenchymal stem cell therapy derived from bone marrow of young adult donors.

Non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy is a condition where heart muscle becomes weakened and enlarged, affecting its ability to pump blood effectively. The disorder has no current cure and often leads to heart transplantation, according to the press release.

Aging-related frailty is a syndrome affecting older individuals characterized by weakness, low physical activity, slowed motor performance, exhaustion, and unintentional weight loss. Currently no approved treatments exist for the condition.

Longeveron previously conducted Phase 1 and 2 studies of laromestrocel in aging-related frailty, designed to show improvements in the six-minute walk test and physical functioning. The company stated that laromestrocel delivered positive initial results across two clinical trials in aging-related frailty.

The Miami-based clinical stage biotechnology company is currently pursuing three pipeline indications: hypoplastic left heart syndrome, Alzheimer's disease, and pediatric dilated cardiomyopathy. The company's laromestrocel development programs have received five FDA designations including Orphan Drug designation, Fast Track designation, and Rare Pediatric Disease designation for hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
