Lockheed Martin completes flight tests for Navy radar upgrade

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) announced it completed flight testing of a radar upgrade for the U.S. Navy's E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft. The company worked with Northrop Grumman on the Digital Receiver Exciter Recorder (DREXR) upgrade.

The DREXR system replaces current Exciter and Receiver subsystems with a single-box upgrade designed to enhance radar performance and extend the aircraft's operational life. Flight tests validated capabilities including wideband transmit and receive functions, independent transmit per radar element, and software-defined waveform functionality.

"The successful DREXR flight tests demonstrate our commitment to keeping the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye at the forefront of airborne early warning and battle management," said Rick Cordaro, vice president of Lockheed Martin Radar and Sensor Systems.

The upgrade aims to strengthen the Navy's ability to detect and track threats in contested environments. The system collected radar data during testing to support mission analysis and development of advanced capabilities, including artificial intelligence applications.

The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye serves as an airborne early warning platform for Carrier Strike Groups. The DREXR upgrade is intended to enhance situational awareness and decision-making capabilities for military commanders.
