Lifeway Foods expands farmer cheese to 2,000 Walmart stores nationwide

Lifeway Foods Inc. (NASDAQ: LWAY) announced that its Farmer Cheese product is now available in 2,000 Walmart stores across the United States. The Morton Grove, Illinois-based company supplies kefir and fermented probiotic products.

The distribution expansion comes amid growing consumer demand in the cottage cheese and cultured dairy category. According to the company, key refrigerated cultured dairy segments including kefir and cottage cheese are experiencing double-digit year-over-year growth rates.

"Farmer Cheese is becoming a star among today's high protein foods, thanks in part to viral recipes like those I recently shared with Katie Couric and Kelly Rizzo, and community posts that have helped bring it into the spotlight," said Julie Smolyansky, CEO of Lifeway Foods.

Lifeway Farmer Cheese contains 15 grams of protein per serving and is made with live and active cultures. The product contains no added salt or sugar, according to the company statement.

Smolyansky noted that the product supports "not just gut health but also the hormonal mechanisms like GLP-1 that underpin satiety and metabolic regulation." The expansion with Walmart allows the company to reach more consumers nationwide while maintaining its focus on nutritious foods that support health and wellbeing, she added.

The cheese product features a creamy texture and mild, tangy flavor suitable for spreading, blending or baking applications. It is positioned as a functional nutrition option that combines bioavailable protein with live cultures.

Lifeway Foods has been recognized as one of America's Growth Leaders by TIME and named Dairy Foods' Processor of the Year 2025. The company's products are sold in the United States, Mexico, Ireland, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, and France.
