Kellanova (NYSE: K) and ADM (NYSE: ADM) completed a two-year regenerative agriculture program covering approximately 120,000 acres of cotton across more than 180 farms in Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
The initiative, which spanned the 2023 and 2024 crop years, engaged farmers to implement regenerative agriculture practices including cover crops and reduced tillage. The program aimed to protect soil, water and biodiversity while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the companies, growers in the program reduced greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 16,000 metric tons in 2024, with models showing 42,000 metric tons of carbon sequestered in soil. Farmers achieved an 85% score on the program's habitat potential index.
The program included 15,000 acres farmed by members of the National Black Growers Council, a farmer-run organization focused on Black row crop farmers. This partnership extends Kellanova's existing relationship with the council through its Eggo brand since 2023.
"Around the globe, our regenerative agriculture efforts are supporting farmers' livelihoods and legacies, enhancing the resilience of global supply chains," said John Grossmann, President, North America Oilseed Crush and Grain at ADM.
Manuel Lopez-Portillo, Vice President of North America Supply Chain at Kellanova, stated that the company works with partners like ADM "to build sustainable value chains that improve the livelihoods of the farmers and ensure the quality of our ingredients."
ADM reported that its regenerative agriculture efforts expanded to 5 million acres globally in 2024. The program included direct farmer engagement through ADM Climate-Smart Manager Emmanuel Bankston, who operates a 400-acre cattle operation in Alabama.
The information was disclosed in a press release statement from the companies.
