Infleqtion scientist wins John Stewart Bell Prize for quantum research

December 22, 2025 9:02 AM EST

Infleqtion announced that its Chief Scientist for Quantum Information Dr. Mark Saffman received the John Stewart Bell Prize for Research on Fundamental Issues in Quantum Mechanics and Their Applications. The biennial prize recognizes scientists who have made significant advances in quantum information theory, quantum computation, quantum foundations, quantum cryptography, and quantum control within the six years preceding the award.

Saffman will be formally honored alongside Antoine Browaeys and Mikhail Lukin at the 11th International Conference on Quantum Information and Quantum Control at the University of Toronto. The John Stewart Bell Prize was established in 2009 and is awarded every two years.

The scientist also recently received the Norman F. Ramsey Prize from the American Physical Society. Saffman serves as the Johannes Rydberg Professor of Physics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and directs the Wisconsin Quantum Institute. He has developed methods for quantum control of neutral atoms and achieved high-fidelity two-qubit operations using Rydberg blockade.

Infleqtion describes itself as a global leader in neutral atom-based quantum technology that designs and builds quantum computers, precision sensors, and quantum software for governments, enterprises, and research institutions. The company announced plans to go public through a combination with Churchill Capital Corp X (NASDAQ: CCCX).

"Mark's work is reshaping how humanity understands the world around us, and it's unlocking new avenues for research and commercial applications for quantum," said Matt Kinsella, CEO of Infleqtion, according to the company's press release.
