Immuron Limited (ASX: IMC; NASDAQ: IMRN) announced a research agreement with the Naval Medical Research Command and Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, funded by a U.S. Department of Defense subaward.

Under the collaboration with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation, Immuron will use its technology platform to produce two hyper-immune bovine colostrum products targeting Campylobacter jejuni and Shigella sonnei pathogens for pre-clinical evaluation. The company aims to develop a combined colostrum-based therapeutic for military use.

The agreement builds on a collaboration announced in August 2024 to develop vaccines against these bacterial pathogens. Military research institutes have developed and formulated new vaccine preparations that have been provided to Immuron for further development.

Immuron also expects results from a Uniformed Services University clinical trial evaluating its IMM-124E product for maintaining gut health during deployment and travel to be announced by the end of next week. The randomized, placebo-controlled study (NCT04605783) tested the active ingredient in Travelan, delivered in 600 mg powder sachets twice daily.

The Melbourne-based biopharmaceutical company focuses on developing orally delivered targeted polyclonal antibodies for infectious diseases. Its Travelan product is marketed as a preventative treatment for travelers' diarrhea in Australia, Canada and the United States.

Infectious diarrhea affects travelers to developing countries and deployed U.S. military personnel. The company cited statistics indicating 1.5 billion episodes of diarrhea occur worldwide annually, resulting in approximately 2.2 million deaths. Shigella species cause an estimated 80-165 million cases globally with 600,000 deaths annually, according to the company's statement.
