February 5, 2026 1:42 AM EST

ING announced that Ljiljana Čortan will be appointed head of ING Wholesale Banking, effective February 24, 2026. She will succeed Andrew Bester, who is returning to the UK to begin the non-executive phase of his career.

Bester will step down from the Management Board Banking on February 24, 2026, after completing the handover of Wholesale Banking activities. ING CEO Steven van Rijswijk said Bester strengthened the foundations and positioned the wholesale bank for growth during his five-year tenure.

Čortan will leave her position as chief risk officer, which she has held since 2021. The bank is conducting a selection process for a new CRO. Until a successor is appointed, Čortan will remain on the Executive Board, with the chief financial officer temporarily assuming risk responsibilities.

Andrea Cesaroni, currently head of Integrated Risk, will serve as interim head of risk and report to the CFO. Cesaroni joined ING in July 2022 and has over 25 years of experience in financial services and risk management. He previously worked at UniCredit, where he held roles including head of Group Financial Risk and head of Group Risk Models & Credit Risk Governance.

The European Central Bank has approved Čortan's appointment as head of Wholesale Banking. ING shares trade on exchanges in Amsterdam (EURONEXT: INGA), Brussels, and New York (NYSE: ING).

The bank stated it will make further announcements regarding the CRO succession process in due course.
