Hassett calls jobs report "a bit of a disappointment"

Investing.com -- White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett described Friday’s U.S. jobs report as "a bit of a disappointment" during a CNBC interview on Friday.


Hassett told CNBC that when evaluating economic conditions, "have to look at whole portfolio of numbers" rather than focusing on a single data point. Despite the weaker job growth figures, he expressed confidence that the employment numbers would "revise up" in future reports.


The White House adviser also addressed several other economic topics during the interview. Regarding potential trade impacts, Hassett stated that the "economy is prepared for tariffs," suggesting confidence in the nation’s ability to handle ongoing trade tensions.


On housing, Hassett acknowledged that the "housing sector still a disappointment," indicating continued challenges in that part of the economy.


When discussing the Federal Reserve, Hassett expressed optimism, saying "there’s a lot of reason for optimism" about monetary policy. He emphasized that "an independent Fed is really important" for economic governance.


Hassett also commented on wages, suggesting they "could offset inflation," pointing to potential balance between wage growth and rising prices.
