Google invests $9 billion in South Carolina data centers through 2027

October 13, 2025 2:05 PM EDT

Google announced a $9 billion investment in South Carolina through 2027 to expand data center operations across the state. The funding will support expansion of the company's existing Berkeley County data center campus and continue construction of two new sites in Dorchester County.

The investment represents one of Google's largest infrastructure commitments in a single state. The company operates data centers that support its cloud computing services and other digital operations.

Google also announced a grant through its Google.org philanthropic arm to the Electrical Training Alliance. The grant will fund integration of artificial intelligence tools into training programs for more than 160 apprentices in South Carolina's technology and energy sectors.

The announcement follows other infrastructure investments Google has made across the United States and internationally, including recent projects in the United Kingdom and Belgium. The company has been expanding its data center footprint to support growing demand for cloud services and AI applications.

Google's South Carolina operations contribute to the state's technology infrastructure and provide employment in the region. Data centers require significant electrical infrastructure and cooling systems to operate the servers that power internet services.

The investment timeline extends through 2027, indicating Google's long-term commitment to its South Carolina operations. The company did not specify the number of jobs the investment would create or the total employment at its South Carolina facilities.
