Frenova partners with GENEWIZ for kidney disease genomics research
Frenova, the clinical research organization of Fresenius Medical Care (Frankfurt: FME), announced a collaboration with GENEWIZ by Azenta Life Sciences (NASDAQ: AZTA) and Nephronomics to advance genomic analysis for kidney disease research.
The partnership focuses on Frenova's My Reason genomic and clinical data registry, which has registered more than 35,000 participants who have provided biospecimens. The program aims to reach 50,000 participants over the next two years.
GENEWIZ will provide DNA sequencing technologies and genomic data analysis from biospecimens collected through Frenova's nephrology research network. Azenta will also offer long-term sample storage through its global biorepository network.
Nephronomics holds exclusive commercial rights to the My Reason dataset, which forms part of the Nephronomics Atlas, a database of clinical and genomic cardio-kidney-metabolic disease data. The company uses artificial intelligence and machine learning models to identify disease subtypes, genetic variants, and therapeutic targets.
"Kidney disease affects each individual differently, shaped by their unique biology and genetic makeup," said Frank Maddux, Global Chief Medical Officer at Fresenius Medical Care. "By harnessing advanced genetic and molecular insights, we can transform kidney care—making it more personalized, precise, and responsive to each patient's distinct needs."
Fresenius Medical Care operates 3,675 dialysis clinics globally and provides dialysis treatments for approximately 299,000 patients worldwide. The company is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and New York Stock Exchange.
Nephronomics is a joint venture between Mechanica Partners and Fresenius Medical Care. The collaboration information was provided in a company press release.
