Dawson Geophysical Company (NASDAQ: DWSN) purchased approximately $24 million worth of Pioneer ultralight seismic land nodes from Geospace Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: GEOS), marking the first major sale of the product, according to a press release from both companies.
The delivery of the Pioneer nodes will begin in the third quarter of 2025. The nodes weigh less than 0.5 kilograms and can record continuously for up to 50 days. They are designed for seismic data acquisition in oil and gas exploration.
"After significant field testing, we decided to make an investment to increase our channel count with Geospace's Pioneer product based on the high quality of data offered in a lightweight package," said Tony Clark, Dawson's President and CEO.
Dawson expects the lighter equipment to improve operational efficiency and allow the company to compete for both large integrated surveys and smaller projects. The Houston-based company provides seismic data acquisition services across the United States and Canada.
Rich Kelley, President and CEO of Geospace Technologies, said the Pioneer maintains data quality while reducing the size and weight compared to previous wireless land nodes. The device includes a proprietary 5Hz geophone and a QuickDeploy feature for faster installation.
Geospace Technologies manufactures vibration sensing equipment for energy, industrial, government and commercial customers worldwide. The company has more than 600 employees globally and trades on NASDAQ under the ticker GEOS.
