Cumberland Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: CPIX) announced a joint commercialization agreement with RedHill Biopharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: RDHL) for Talicia, an FDA-approved treatment for Helicobacter pylori infection in adults.
Under the agreement, the companies will form a jointly owned entity. RedHill will contribute Talicia assets, including international licenses and associated revenues, while Cumberland will provide $4 million in investment capital. Cumberland will handle distribution and record product sales, with both companies sharing net revenues equally.
Talicia generated $8 million in net revenues in 2024. The oral capsule combines omeprazole, amoxicillin and rifabutin in a single treatment and demonstrates eradication rates above 90%. The American College of Gastroenterology lists Talicia as a first-line treatment option in updated guidelines for H. pylori infections.
"Talicia features an outstanding clinical profile and represents an excellent strategic match for our organization," said A.J. Kazimi, CEO of Cumberland Pharmaceuticals. "It provides us with an immediate growth opportunity, as we will build on the excellent foundation RedHill has created and bring this critical therapy to many more patients."
The product maintains patent protection through 2042 and received eight years of U.S. market exclusivity under its Qualified Infectious Disease Product designation. Insurance coverage includes 70% of commercial plans and 60% of government plans.
Cumberland will leverage its national sales force to promote Talicia among healthcare providers. The treatment is available at retail pharmacies nationwide, with CVS stocking the product at 1,700 locations through a distribution agreement.
Rick Scruggs, Chief Commercial Officer of RedHill Inc., stated the arrangement represents an opportunity for Cumberland to add an approved product to its portfolio and help drive prescription growth.
