Cassava Sciences Inc. (NASDAQ: SAVA) announced the appointment of Dawn C. Bir to its board of directors, according to a company statement.
Bir brings experience from biotechnology companies including Reata Pharmaceuticals Inc., which was acquired by Biogen Inc., Geron Corporation, and Soleno Therapeutics Inc. She currently serves as a non-executive board director for Geron Corporation (NASDAQ: GERN) and Soleno Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: SLNO).
The Austin-based biotechnology company is developing treatments for central nervous system disorders, including tuberous sclerosis complex-related epilepsy. Cassava plans to initiate its first clinical study for simufilam in TSC-related epilepsy in the first half of 2026.
"We are delighted to welcome Dawn to the Board at this pivotal time for Cassava," said Claude Nicaise, chairman of the board.
Bir previously served as interim president and chief executive officer of Geron Corporation and as executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Reata Pharmaceuticals. She also held the position of vice president of sales at Pharmacyclics LLC before its acquisition by AbbVie Inc.
Earlier in her career, Bir worked at McKesson Corporation, Genentech, and Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. She holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Binghamton University.
"Dawn's track record of forging influential relationships with market stakeholders and creating a clear line of sight from the clinic to commercialization will be invaluable to Cassava," said Rick Barry, president and chief executive officer.
The information is based on a company press release statement.
