Calavo Growers names new CEO as Cole retires after four decades

November 12, 2025 7:38 AM EST

Calavo Growers Inc. (NASDAQ: CVGW) announced that Lee E. Cole will retire as president and chief executive officer effective December 8, 2025, following four decades with the company. B. John Lindeman, a current board member and former chief financial officer of Calavo, will succeed Cole in both roles.

Lindeman previously served as Calavo's chief financial officer and corporate secretary from 2015 to 2020. Most recently, he was chief executive officer of Hydrofarm Holdings Group Inc. (NASDAQ: HYFM), a hydroponics equipment manufacturer and distributor. He also serves on the board of directors of Utz Brands Inc.

Kathleen Holmgren, who was elected chair of Calavo's board of directors in October 2025, said Cole led the company through multiple market cycles and expanded its global reach. Cole stated he was confident in Lindeman's ability to lead the company forward.

The Santa Paula, California-based company processes and distributes avocados, tomatoes, papayas and guacamole products. Calavo was founded in 1924 and operates facilities throughout the United States and Mexico.

The leadership transition occurs as Calavo continues evaluating strategic alternatives following receipt of a non-binding acquisition proposal in June 2025. The company stated the review process remains ongoing and may not result in a transaction.

Lindeman holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Mary Washington and is a chartered financial analyst. He previously held positions in finance and investment banking before joining the agriculture industry.
