Bulgaria deploys Google Cloud cybersecurity system for national defense

Bulgaria's Information Services announced a collaboration with Google Cloud to implement the company's Cybershield system for national cyber defense. The project represents one of the first deployments of Google Cloud's Cybershield technology in Europe.

The implementation establishes a federated Security Operations Center designed to protect government ministries and agencies. Information Services will use Google Cloud Security Operations to monitor threats across government entities and coordinate responses.

"Our partnership with Google Cloud is the result of an eight-year relationship built on trust and technical excellence," said Simeon Kartselyanski, Cyber Security Manager at Information Services and leader of Bulgarian National Cyber Security Operations Center.

The project, which began earlier this year, aims to integrate 54 government entities into the federated SOC. The system includes Google Cloud Security Operations for analytics and Google Threat Intelligence, which incorporates insights from Mandiant.

The collaboration includes analyst capabilities to support Information Services in detecting security threats. The project receives EU funding as part of regional efforts to secure the EU's eastern border.

"Bulgaria is taking a leading role in European cybersecurity by executing a highly sophisticated, centralized defense strategy," said Boris Georgiev, Director for Central and Eastern Europe at Google Cloud.

Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) operates Google Cloud as part of its cloud computing services division. The company provides cybersecurity solutions to government and enterprise customers globally.
