Atlanta Fed president Bostic to retire in February 2026

Investing.com -- Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta President Raphael W. Bostic announced Wednesday his intention to retire at the end of his current term on February 28, 2026.

Bostic, who has served as the 15th president and CEO of the Atlanta Fed since June 5, 2017, was the first African American and openly gay president of a regional Federal Reserve Bank in its 111-year history.

His departure comes amid other high-profile personnel changes at the U.S. central bank and increased political pressure from President Donald Trump to lower interest rates. Bostic will exit a few months before Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s term ends in May 2026.

"It’s been my distinct honor and privilege to lead the Atlanta Fed for these past eight and a half years," Bostic said. "I’m proud of what we accomplished during my tenure to turn the lofty goal of an economy that works for everyone into more of a reality."

Federal Reserve Board Chair Jerome Powell praised Bostic’s service, saying, "His perspective has enriched the Federal Open Market Committee’s understanding of our dynamic economy. And his steady voice has exemplified the best of public service—grounded in analysis, informed by experience, and guided by purpose."

The Atlanta Fed’s board of directors will form a search committee comprised of non-banking members to conduct a nationwide search for Bostic’s successor. If a replacement is not appointed by February 28, 2026, First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Cheryl Venable will serve as interim president.
