Anheuser-Busch (NYSE: BUD) announced a $7.4 million investment in its Los Angeles brewery to upgrade brewing and packaging equipment for increased Michelob ULTRA production. The investment forms part of the company's Brewing Futures initiative, through which it plans to invest more than $300 million in U.S. facilities.
The Los Angeles brewery, opened in 1954, has received $180 million in investments over the past five years. The facility produces 45 different products that are shipped to 26 U.S. states. The new investment will expand capacity to produce 25-ounce cans and 15-pack slim cans of Michelob ULTRA to meet consumer demand.
"Investing in our Los Angeles Brewery enables us to brew and deliver more of the highest-quality beers and beyond that consumers love," said Brendan Whitworth, CEO of Anheuser-Busch.
According to Nielsen IQ data, single-serve cans represent the top share-gaining pack size in beer this year. Michelob ULTRA volume grew 7.2% year-to-date through August 31, according to Circana data.
Los Angeles purchases more Michelob ULTRA than any other U.S. city, according to Circana data through September 14. The brand serves as the official beer sponsor of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, both coming to Los Angeles.
California State Senator Caroline Menjivar said the investment will contribute to job retention in Senate District 20. Anheuser-Busch has invested nearly $2 billion across its 100 U.S. facilities over the past five years, according to the company statement.
