Allogene retains control of cancer therapy after arbitration ruling

December 15, 2025 5:40 PM EST

Allogene Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: ALLO) announced that an arbitration tribunal ruled in favor of Servier in its dispute with Cellectis (Euronext Growth: ALCLS, NASDAQ: CLLS) regarding cemacabtagene ansegedleucel, commonly known as cema-cel.

The arbitration tribunal rejected Cellectis's claims that Servier breached development obligations and dismissed financial claims for milestone payments. The tribunal determined that milestone payments tied to the pivotal trial are not due until the U.S. Food and Drug Administration accepts a Biologics License Application.

The ruling confirms Allogene's development and commercial control of cema-cel in the United States, European Union member states, and the United Kingdom. The decision also preserves Allogene's path to acquire full global commercialization rights from Servier.

The tribunal ordered only partial termination of the license limited to the UCART19 V1 product, formerly known as ALLO-501, which Allogene discontinued in 2021. The tribunal directed Cellectis to negotiate in good faith a direct license to Allogene on similar terms to the existing agreement if Allogene chooses to pursue it.

Allogene's cema-cel is currently being tested in the pivotal Phase 2 ALPHA3 trial for first-line consolidation in large B-cell lymphoma patients. The company expects to conduct an interim futility analysis in the first half of 2026, comparing minimal residual disease conversion with cema-cel following standard lymphodepletion versus observation.

The South San Francisco-based biotechnology company develops allogeneic CAR T cell products for cancer and autoimmune diseases. Cema-cel was developed under an exclusive license from Cellectis to Servier, with Servier subsequently granting Allogene exclusive rights in specified territories.
