AVITA Medical names Michael Tarnoff to board, Cary Vance as chair

AVITA Medical Inc. (NASDAQ: RCEL) appointed Michael Tarnoff as a non-executive director to its board, effective August 6, 2025, according to a company statement. The wound care company also announced that Cary Vance will assume the board chair position on August 7, 2025, replacing Lou Panaccio who stepped down after more than 10 years in the role.
Tarnoff served as Chief Physician Executive and CEO at Tufts Medical Center for 23 years until 2024. His previous roles include Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs at Medtronic from 2015 to 2019, and corporate Chief Medical Officer and Vice President at Covidien's Surgical Devices division from 2008 to 2015. He holds a medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and completed a general surgery residency at Rutgers.
Vance brings over 25 years of healthcare industry executive experience, having previously served as CEO at several companies including PhotoniCare Inc., Titan Medical, and Hansen Medical. He joined AVITA Medical's board on April 1, 2023. Vance holds a BA in Economics and an MBA from Marquette University.
"His leadership and expertise in clinical innovation will help us continue to scale AVITA's impact as a therapeutic acute wound care company," said Jim Corbett, Chief Executive Officer of AVITA Medical, regarding Tarnoff's appointment.
AVITA Medical develops wound care technologies, with its RECELL System approved by the FDA for treating thermal burn wounds and trauma wounds. The company also holds exclusive U.S. rights to PermeaDerm and Cohealyx wound care products.
